Modern experimental mechanics FHLN10

The aim of this course is to introduce the techniques and possibilities in modern experimental mechanics for the characterisation of the mechanics of solid, porous and granular materials using a range of physics techniques and in particular full-field analyses. The course will pay particular attention to full-field analyses using optical methods (with a focus on digital image correlation), x-ray and neutron imaging and scattering approaches, and wave propagation. The course will include both theoretical and practical parts and will also involve study visits to MAX IV and ESS. Inverse analyses and digital image/signal processing in the context of experimental analyses will also be covered.

Course coordinator: Stephen Hall, Division Solid Mechanics, LTH.

The course will be taught in English.

Recommended prerequisites: Basic courses in mathematics, mechanics and solid mechanics.

See also the Experimental Mechanics page for more details on the research activities relating to this course.
