Research activities
My research is oriented towards the investigation of the hydro-mechanical behaviour of porous and granular rocks, such as sandstone, at several different length scales, using neutron-based experimental methods. In particular, strain and stress fields in rocks subjected to mechanical loading will be investigated by neutron diffraction coupled with digital image correlation, to increase understanding of the mechanical behaviour of these materials from grain to bulk behaviour. Additionally, neutron tomography will be used to make 4D (three space dimensions plus time) images to understand how mechanical processes affect the hydraulic behaviour of rocks.
