Education

The education at Solid Mechanics involves undergraduate/graduated and postgraduate courses as well as master's theses. The main goal is to give the students a clear and in-depth understanding of solid mechanics by using the models and patterns from mechanics and physics, the language of mathematics and numerical methods and letting problem-solving and design be the goal.

The various courses are offered to students from all engineering programs at LTH.  The courses deal with topics such as: solid mechanics, engineering mechanics,  finite element method, mechanics of materials, biomechanics and fracture mechanics.

An important part of the education is the master's thesis, which normally is conducted during the last semester. The work done in the framework of a master's thesis is often performed in cooperation with industry, but can also be an important part of ongoing research projects.
